Jori Venemies – Bass Guitar

“I started playing piano at the age of seven. However guitar was more interesting and studied classical guitar until twenties. Bass guitar came along in high school and has been my band instrument ever since.

Did M.ed. and worked as a teacher for 28 years while touring and recording, but a few years ago I decided to dedicate the rest of my life to what I really want to do and that´s music. Lucky to be able to do so.

Beside my own career as a musician I have also produced almost a hundred other recordings, co-written a book about guitar music history and arranged several festivals… and continue to do so.”

Erkki ”Eki” Sutela – Guitar

“I took my brother´s acoustic and started when I was 10 years old. I wanted just to get noise from it. Ive never learned notes and I only know just a few chords by name, but my playing is varied. I learn songs from albums. Im like a walking copy machine!

My first band was a school band, then came The Diamonds, where I played bass and after the lead guitarist quit I started to play lead guitar again.

I like Hank Marvin, Steve Lukather, Joe Satriani, Joe Bonamassa Simon McBrideall kind of genres where the guitar playing excites me. I grew up listening to my father’s instrumental albums and that might been an influence. I like to play old-style and guitar instrumentals. You are never too old to learn more.”

’60s-based rock instrumental music is more widely popular in Finland than perhaps anywhere else in the world. It attracts really skilful musicians who play with much feeling in the melodic European style and with a great sense of rhythm. Where the Finnish scene has broadened to include a tougher, more American-influenced edge, the bands retain that sense of melody and rhythm in a perfect combination of styles.

– Alan Taylor, Editor / Pipeline magazine (UK)

Guitar Town adds fresh insights into the genre’s 21st century sound and as such, will intrigue fans of the still-growing, world-wide, instrumental surf-guitar scene.”️
– Roots Music Report (USA), October 27, 2020

“To listen to a CD like this, and to be allowed to review it, is a rare privilege. ´Guitar Town´, in my view, is a masterpiece that I can recommend without restraint to all guitar fans.”

– Reflections 3/2020 (Germany)

After listening to this several times, all I can say is wow!”
– The Continental Magazine #29 (USA)

“Beatmakers have a brilliant sound, the instrumentals are varied in style and tempos – overall it’s a very harmonious album, every track is perfect.”

– Rock’n’Roll Musikmagazin Nr. 249 (Germany)

Pekka Tiilikainen & Beatmakers have always taken the road less traveled and been true to their own vision of 1960s style pop music and instrumental rock.

– Big Beat 3/2017 (Finland)

They exhibit grand tones – cutting one minute, round and full the next, with just enough reverb. Hank Marvin’s influence is inescapable.

The quartet also has an uncanny ability to reinvent covers.

– Dan Forte / Vintage Guitar, Vol. 36 (USA)

This is a band to be reckoned with.

– Pipeline #77 (UK)

They swing effortlessly from delicious slow themes to raucous, rocking guitars.

– New Gandy Dancer  #127 (UK)
