‘Alan Entwistle Pickups’ Artist

Matthew Healy

“I just got started by learning Metallica solos in my bedroom as a young teenager. I think all anyone wants to do when they start playing is play really, really fast.”

GENRE(S): Shoegaze, RnB, Country, Trad

INFLUENCES / FAVOURITE ARTISTS: Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, Thin Lizzy, Melanie Faye, Johnny Marr, Tony Rice

BANDS – ACTIVE: Negro Impacto, Anie Valentine

BANDS – PREVIOUS: Qbanna (Latin RnB), Bucket (Noise Rock)

PREFERRED PICKUPS, AND WHY: The X90s hands down, I love P90s but as anyone who has ever owned a guitar with a set of them in it will know, they’re the noisiest things on the planet. The X90s are just deadly, they’ve got so much bite and clarity to them and yet they’re dead quiet, no hum off them whatsoever !!! and I love all of the different split-coil configurations you can do with the Entwistle pickups.

BIOGRAPHY:

I just got started by learning Metallica solos in my bedroom as a young teenager. I think all anyone wants to do when they start playing is learn how to play really really fast, ha ha. After years playing in my bedroom however, I went to college to study music and I absolutely fell in love with guitar. I got really into bluegrass and neo-soul stuff in particular and started sessioning for a few local bands (some of which, luckily, started to do quite well for themselves !). As of right now it’s how I make a living for myself.

I was always pretty broke growing up and I could never afford all of the deadly gear I’d see my favourite artists playing, so it just meant I had to get savvy with making cheap gear as good as the expensive stuff. Good thing I did too, because it meant by the time I got to college, between the session work and the repairs, I could just about pay the bills, ha ha. But I’ve always been a strong believer in not breaking the bank to sound deadly, and the lads here at Entwistle are really doin’ something special, and I’m just absolutely stoked to have my name associated with such a legendary guitar designer and the boys who are makin’ sick pickups and makin’ things happen alongside him.
