‘Alan Entwistle Pickups’ Artist

Oscar Diaz

…it is not until he turns 16 that he permanently picks up his guitar and it becomes the instrument that stays with him.”

GENRE(S): Heavy, Thrash and Progressive Metal.

FAVOURITE ARTISTS / INFLUENCES: Kiko Loureiro, John Petrucci, Michael Romeo.

BANDS – ACTIVE: WARG.

BANDS – PREVIOUS: Anemiath, Venus, Nemesis, Overclock, Occitannia.

PREFERRED PICKUPS, AND WHY:  X3 is very powerful. Artificial harmonics are obtained very easily. In Floyd Rose-type bridges it has a punch that is difficult to match and cuts through the mix easily without being harsh. I love how the new X3XNeo humbuckers sound but am really enjoying recording with the HV75. In the past I have used major brands but my sound is in the Alan Entwistle pickups.

BIOGRAPHY:

Born into a family with a deep musical tradition, from a very young age Oscar rehearsed with bands and attended concerts practically every weekend. As expected, he had his dalliances with various instruments, drums, bass……but it is not until he turns 16 that he permanently picks up his guitar and it becomes the instrument that stays with him.

Over the years, Oscar has been part of several different bands, some more successful than others, such as: Anemiath: 2000-2003, Venus: 2000-2002, Nemesis: 2003-2008, Zona Zero: 2008 and Overclock: 2012-2014. Since 2014 he has been part of the epic thrash metal group, WARG, with which he has recorded four studio albums, “Back from the shadows”, “In the dusk of men”, “Dark Tales” and “The Endless travel”.

WARG was founded in late 2013 with the driving will of seeking a particular new sound based on eliminating the frontiers between genres which the band loved. Thus the attitude of old-school thrash metal was mixed with the epic of classic heavy metal and the aggressiveness and melody of Nordic extreme metal. A risky but organic mixture creating WARG, who are currently recording what will be their fifth studio album.

In the WARG ranks, Oscar has participated in various competitions such as the Villa de Bilbao competition (2016) in which WARG came 3rd out of more than 300 bands presented, or the WOA metal battle in which they have been semi-finalists (2017) and have been nominated on several occasions for Aragonese music awards.

Among their influences, groups such as Manowar or Blind Guardian initially stood out. Later, Oscar discovered the virtuosos of the 90s, such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani, etc…but also players such as Santana…. currently his clearest influences are John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Kiko Loureiro and Michael Romeo (Symphony X).

As for his interpretation, he is always focused on having both his own sound and style, but always being permeable to the music that surrounds him at all times. Oscar is a guitarist who likes the alternate picking technique the most, combined with long legato phrasings and a significant amount of harmonics, “dive bombs” and use of the tremolo in the style of Dimebag Darrel.
