BIOGRAPHY:

I started playing bass in 1978, after being a KISS fan and wanting to be in a band. I started learning on a Fender P-bass copy, then moving on to my first quality bass and amp, being an Ibanez Destroyer II and a Peavey Mk IV head with a 1×15 Black Widow cab. I also had several years of formal tuition on keyboards which helped me develop my sense of playing by ear. With this, and a few years of garage jamming to Iron Maiden, KISS, Cold Chisel and anything else at the time, with my long-time friend on guitar.

VICE, my first band, was formed in 1984, which went on to have a successful career even after my departure. Taking several years off to live life and world-travel, I returned to music in the form of Black Whiskey after dabbling in several uneventful short-term ventures. In 2018 Black Whiskey had its first rehearsal, and within 6 weeks, we were opening for internationally renowned rock band STRYPER. Joining Black Whiskey made me look at myself as a bass player, and I began to revisit old influences as well as finding new ones to inspire me to not only play better, but to make the ‘engine room’ a more productive and cohesive unit. I began to listen to the likes of Alan Spenner and Carol Kane. deep diving into the playing of my early heroes Phil Small and Greg Macainsch.

I am also a bass player that is constantly trying to improve my sound and tone, and one way to achieve this is by using quality pickups to replace a lot of ‘factory fitted’ ones. This along with my chosen amplification seems to get the job done.
