This single-coil is inspired by the 1960s Ceramic bar-magnet ‘after-market’ version of the Tri-Sonic guitar pickup (distinct from the Alnico version prevalent on many of their instruments).

The Astrosonic VX draws inspiration from the very early 60’s chrome-covered Vox guitar pickups. It has a single Ceramic bar magnet and a special coil. The VX captures those early rock sounds perfectly and is ideal for use with 60’s type circuitry, such as bass cut switching, etc.

This fantastic new addition to the Astro range was inspired by the Burns Split-Sound guitar pickups. However, it has been refined to offer greater balance and versatility.

Featuring two individual coils under the cover, powered by Ceramic magnets, it delivers a bright, vintage tone. One coil is dedicated to sensing the bass (D A E) strings and the other the treble (E B G) strings. With a suitable switching system, these coils can be wired in series or parallel, enabling the blending of bass and treble sets of strings from different Astro-Split guitar pickups, while retaining the option for a ‘standard’ pickup configuration. In addition, with an added jack output it is possible to achieve a stereo guitar setup, with bass strings playing through one amp and treble strings through another to creatively obtain unique sounds.

Here we have our noiseless version of the classic AS57 guitar pickup, featuring staggered Alnico V rods.

Our approach to noiseless guitar pickups differs from others. Unlike most makers we have taken a regular, full-sized AS57 and integrated a smaller cancelling-coil underneath it. This innovation allows us to deliver a guitar pickup that still retains all of that vintage tone-scape that you expect from a traditional Alnico single pickup, but without the noise.

Please note: The DC Resistance readings here are shown for both coils. These  guitar pickups are not designed as an over-wound or ‘hot’ pickup. The tonal characteristics are derived from the main coil.

The XS62 set was crafted to offer guitarists a higher-powered alternative to the standard vintage Alnico single-coils, without compromising their fundamental characteristics.

For the dedicated utilitarian player, a winning combination involves pairing an XS62 in the bridge with AS57 pickups in the middle and neck positions – providing extra ‘oomph’ in the bridge while maintaining a cohesive single-coil tone throughout all positions.

The XS62N HG is a single coil that breaks all the rules. It has a low DCR of 4.5k, achieved by winding with heavy 38-gauge wire that fills the entire bobbin. In spite of this moderate impedance rating, it has more output than a classic Alnico single coil. The result is an exceptionally articulate guitar pickup with remarkably wide dynamics.

We offer both Alnico V and Ceramic versions of this P90-style guitar pickup, featuring screw-adjustable pole pieces.. Fitting to your guitar is achieved by screwing through holes in the pickup body.

The Alnico V version of the X90 embodies the authentically warm, fat sound of this time honoured classic pickup design. It delivers increased midrange bite and treble compared to humbuckers, yet retains more body and less glassiness than a traditional single coil design.

The Ceramic version is a little brighter and hotter than the classic Alnico version.

This P90-style pickup features a Neodymium magnet and screw-adjustable pole pieces, wound with heavy gauge winding wire and available in black or cream.

Introducing the N90 HG – where HG stands for Heavy Gauge. This P90-style guitar pickup features a Neodymium magnet and screw-adjustable pole pieces. It’s wound with heavy gauge wire and is available in black or cream. Despite its low DC Resistance (DCR) of only 5.5K ohms, don’t underestimate its power. Thanks to Neodymium magnets, it packs a punch comparable to any other P90 variant. The tone is crisp, clear, and dynamic, offering excellent string separation and a broad tonal range. It brings out the best in tone controls, almost resembling an active guitar pickup.

A cool revamp of the Alcamax VX style pickups from 1963. These guitar pickups have a more metallic character compared to our AS57 vintage-style S-Type single coils. They’re ideal for Vox-style guitar builds, as replacements for originals (see below), or for adding a unique touch to your S-type guitar (just be cautious with scratch-plate pickup routings as these have square ends!).

Please note, these pickups may not fit as a direct replacement to all Vox guitars.

If intended as original Vox pickup replacements, please only purchase if you are sure they will fit. Before purchasing, measure the size of your old guitar pickups and compare against the VX63 dimensions, below (measured as accurately as possible but please allow a slight discrepancy):

L: 70mm x W: 18mm x H: 23mm (pickups have square corners)

Mounting holes 76mm apart (measured from middle of holes)

Here’s one for the acoustic enthusiasts. This acoustic soundhole guitar pickup attaches to your acoustic guitar using two hex-key mini clamps. The cable with jack socket, long enough to reach the lower strap button, allows you to plug in any guitar cable of your own. The jack socket attaches to the strap button via a rubber mount, keeping it conveniently out of your way and preventing it from dangling downwards, potentially getting stepped on. Quite clever, isn’t it?
